Reflection on our documentary film

When I first received the topic that I would be doing, I felt that it would be a very difficult and serious topic. However, I was eager to learn more about employment because I knew this topic will affect and assist my future. I was assigned to work with two other group members. I was excited to work on this project with them. The TIG group told us they were going to present our documentary film in the film festival. Timing was one of the big issues that our group members have been concerned about. We were doubtful that our documentary film could not be finished on time since employment is a very hard topic.

As time went by, our documentary film was processing very slowly. I was unsatisfied with one of my group member because, he never did his share of work. The first time, we received the camcorder, we felt very excited. The filming was very irritating because we had to film over and over again. My group members spoke too softly which caused us very difficult to record their voice. Near term two, we had another group member joined our team. After filming, we had to import it into our laptops and edit the film. Sometimes, editing the film was quite frustrating because when you delete a clip, you have to shift the rest of the film over. However, I enjoyed editing the film the most out of everything we have done. My computer knowledge had improved as I have learned how to use the programs called Photoshop and Flash. Flash was quite confusing, but the program was impressive. At first, it was difficult for us to find music because the CDs that we had wasn’t really music, it was sound effects. It became easier to find music, when our computer teacher recommended some websites with music to us.

When the film festival was over, we felt amazed because we never thought we would be able to finish it. I also felt relieved because we’ve been working on this project for the whole year, and we finally don’t have to worry about this project anymore. After awhile, I started missing TIG, because we’ve worked on it for so long, and it became part of my life. I’m happy that we got chosen to be the pilot class, to get an opportunity to create this film and everything else. Although working on TIG was stressful, it made grade 8 very fun. It made me learn how to work with people that I am not close to, and how to use different computer programs. I think everyone at the film festival got inspired, informed and involved. This project was certainly the most different and biggest project I have ever done. I will never forget this.

Our group is going to finish our film very soon. We just need to work on flash. After that we need to work on our display board, and the other two members in my group, already started working on that. We need to strengthen our ending, and fix our credits. We have to figure out how to fix the gaps inbetween the names in our credits. There is approximately 3 weeks left before we have to present our film and our booth to everyone. The film festival is going to be here very soon, it's on May 20th. Wow, then we won't work on TIG anymore, this is probably the longest project I ever had. We probably started this project, around December. The TIG people will be coming in to our class, to check how we're doing on our films. They will give us opinions and suggestions on what needs to be changed and what is good. Hopefully our group can finish our film in time, and do a good job on it.

It is only a few minutes away until the TIG group reaches our school. They are going to teach us how to use the new computer programs. We will be another step closer to finishing our documentary film. I think we are going to learn about photoshop, imovie and Macromedia. We might get to scan our logo too. Today will be a very interesting day. My group members are also waiting for replies for our business letters.

Stereotyping

A lot of people in this world try to stop stereotyping, but yet it still exists today. Stereotyping happens everywhere. In the past, many fights began by people being stereotypical. A lot of people judge other people by how they look, without actually getting to know them first. For example, if someone smokes, or you see them in a crowd on the street, you will immediately think they are a gang. You will think, they have a gun, and they might jump you for money. That's why, "we shouldn't judge them, if we don't know them." In fact, we shouldn't judge anyone, who are we to judge? Everyone have their own style, they are special in their own ways, just because they act in a certain way, or dress differently, it doesn’t mean that we have the right to judge them. During the time of SARS, when Chinese people went on the bus, and coughed, all of the other people will immediately move away from where they sat. That was because they assumed all Chinese people had SARS. I know it might be a challenge for some people in this world to stop being stereotypical. This is because sometimes when they are being stereotypical, they may not even realize it.
